Gate, formerly Gate to Moonbase Alpha, stands as one of the oldest continually-running events for electronic and experimental music in the city of Philadelphia, and is unique in that all events are completely free to the public. Since the late-1990s, the series has hosted performers from as far away as Europe and Australia, to as close as a block from The Rotunda, where the shows are held. Past performers have used everything from synthesizers, guitars, and laptops to scrap metal, tree branches, and children's toys.
